My earliest memory of an educational technology dates back to 1993. I had a fourth-grade computer class, which had a lab of Apple II computers with 5.25” floppy disk drives. There were two educational games that I recall being in love with, and the thought of them still bring happy childhood memories to this day. The titles of the games were “Number Munchers” and “Oregon Trail”. Number Munchers was designed to teach basic math skills and Oregon Trail was designed to teach students about the realities of 19th-century pioneer life on the Oregon Trail. You had to stock up on provisions, and then, while traveling, make decisions such as when to rest, how much food to eat, etc. I believe this game was one of many responsible for my early childhood gaming addiction.
