Part 1- Reflect on the entire course:
This spring semester has come to a close and I now sit back and reflect on all the work I’ve put into this final project. When I look at this final project I feel a lot of emotions. I feel proud, I feel relief, I feel empowered, and I feel that I’ve come a long way. I learned a lot during this course and it’s reflected in my work. In this course, I learned how to integrate education technology into teaching. I’ve also learned that technology in schools can go under-utilized if educators do not have the appropriate resources and aren’t provided with the right professional development they need to use the technology. I’ve learned that the usefulness of technology has a lot to do with how the technology is used and the beliefs of those using the technology.
Throughout this course, we learned several theories and they all played a huge role in the development of my coursework assignments. I was able to analyze these learning theories and learn how people acquire new knowledge. This gave me a better understanding of how learning should take place and how various educational technology integration strategies have been derived. I feel integrating these theories into my coursework promoted effective integration of the technology that I used for the various course assignments.
The way this coursework demonstrates my mastery of the AECT standards are listed below:
AECT Standard 1 – Content Knowledge
I’ve learned to use technological resources and processes to support student learning and to enhance my pedagogy. I’ve learned different technology integration strategies and have integrated education technology into teaching various lesson plans for third-grade math as well as a variety of other content areas.
In Edtech 541 i’ve demonstrated the ability to assess and evaluate the effective integration of appropriate technologies and instructional materials. Throughout this course I was tasked with finding the relative advantage of various technologies and instructional material and finding ways to integrate them into various lesson plans.
AECT Standard 2 – Content Pedagogy
In this course I applied content pedagogy to create appropriate applications of processes and technologies to improve learning and performance outcomes. I implemented different educational technologies based on contemporary content.
In this course I implemented appropriate educational technologies and processes based on appropriate content pedagogy. I was able to apply this to my lesson plans to effectively enhance the learning experience.
AECT Standard 5 – Research
In this course, I applied research methodologies to solve problems and enhance practice. I solved problems by finding appropriate assistive technologies that would help learners with disabilities.
In this course, I applied formal inquiry strategies in assessing and evaluating processes and resources for learning and performance. I was able to apply this strategy while researching the different educational technologies and finding out how they would positively affect student performance.
This course has helped me grow professionally in many ways. It has made me accountable for my work and it has helped me develop my research skills. It has taught me how to develop lesson plans and objectives. It’s also helped me become better at evaluating and assessing technologies and instructional material.
The way my thoughts about teaching have become impacted by this course is that I now feel that I have the knowledge and tools necessary to successfully integrate technology into a classroom and curriculum. I use to think that integrating technology was as simple as using computer and tablets in class, but I’ve learned that it is more involved than that. What I’ve learned and what I will apply are the theories and strategies that have been created and implemented that helped facilitate this process. I’ve learned that this all helps enhance the learner’s learning experience and make you a better educator.
